Wearable Art For Fashionistas

Jane’s Outstanding Necklaces, Handbags, Ear Cuffs, Jean Jewelry

WELCOME !

Welcome back!

Welcome to my world. This is my first ever blog, so here goes. This web/blog is for showcasing my multi-media craft items. I have been an inveterate crafter for a very long time, and have explored a multitude of crafts, from the macrame epidemic in the sixties, to polymer clay in the nineties.

Over time, the focus has been on wearable art of all types, but primarily jewelry items incorporating a variety of materials. My specialty is wirework, but I also love to knit and crochet, so this is used in my wire worked pieces in a variety of ways. Right now I am exploring the combination of yarn and wire together in a crocheted or knitted item. Pics and descriptions will be posted in a few weeks. Fabric, sewing, fabric paint and embellishments have always intrigued me, so I purchased a Bernina 440 QE sewing machine this past year and am gleefully creating my “jean” bagettes.BLOG 8-1 I can now start using my “stash” of vintage fabric, buttons, lace, rhinestones, flowers, beads and whatever else I can lay my hands on. Each of them is one of a kind.

This past year I began creating rings from a sterling silver adjustable band and swarovski crystals. I will be using czech glass flower and leaf beads to design a second ring variety.

BLOG 10-1STERLING RINGS

My wire working skills helped me to design a unique ear cuff. They sit on the cuff side of the ear and wrap up and down the curve of the ear. Beads are BLOG 5-1added for color and design. They are very comfortable, can be custom shaped to the ear, and do not require pierced ears. I draw oohs and ahhs whenever I wear a pair. Check out the pictures!

THE EAR CUFF … people rave.

Last, I want to describe two more of my creations. About a year ago, I, for some unknown reason , purchased a box of vintage dominoes. In the back of my head was a plan to develop them into some sort of jewelry. Out of this thought came the necklaces pictured here. BLOG 1-1I used unmounted rubber stamps to create an image on both sides of the domino. The coloring was done using a combination of chalk, colored Sharpie pens, watercolor pencils, alcohol inks, craft paints, and Pearl Ex powders. A side hole was drilled into the top of the domino for stringing either leather cord or dyed silk cords.

BLOG 2-1Some of them have wire work, and all have a variety of complementary beads and a clasp. Again, each is one of a kind.

DOMINO NECKLACES

My final description is of my jean/handbag/key chain jewelry. I use a variety of chain designs and hand wrap beads and crystals to the chain with wire. There is a main focal bead(s) on each and the chains are attached to spring hook. I have attached them to a handbag strap or zipper pull. You can also attach one to a jean belt loop, a keychain, or a jean jacket. Use your imagination! BLOG 9-1

Well, enough said for now. I am off to create some more unusual wearable art to justify all my “stash”. Like other craft persons out there it is hard to throw anything out that just might show up in my next creation. Let the dust bunnies roll! JANE
